![]() ![]() The following review is made mostly from the Gmail side of things, unless explicitly noted. Mates, even Microsoft Teams have released a Linux client! Join the 2000's already!Įhum. Google has time and again denied us Linux users their software, despite making their money almost entirely on units using it (their servers, Android, Chrome books all use Linux). While I expect an OS X client is in the works, I'll not hold my breath for the Linux client. I personally see myself mostly using the Gmail or Android versions Gmail then continues being the 'communication hub' while the Android app is used for pings when you're AFK or out and about. Similar to the old Hangouts, it has Gmail integration as well as the standalone, and apps for Android, iOS and Windows. In particular, it will be interesting to see if there's something new from the user standpoint that makes it stand out from its competitors. Wohoo! Time for a mini-review.Īs someone who has used chat and meeting software in the professional space since the 90's, and worked on companies (Marratech, Google) developing such software for 15+ years, it is quite exciting to see something new hit the light of day. Development took a bit longer than until October 2019, but the new Google Chat has finally been released. The rumour mill had been crunching for a while until Google confirmed in January 2019 that they were working on a replacement for Hangouts for G Suite customers. ![]()
